North American visit of Kamlesh D. Patel, part II

December 2015, Monroe ashram, New Jersey, USA

Reading the Condition

One evening, prior to starting a sitting, Kamlesh bhai said, “I will work only on one area today. I want you to tell me after the sitting where I worked.”

The sitting lasted for about twenty minutes. After the sitting, some of the abhyasis presented their findings.

Kamlesh bhai patiently listened and then explained to the group, “What you feel is what you feel. It shows your personal condition. In a way all are right, but to be precise I worked on the lower left area today. What you need is a bit of confidence. You cannot be wrong. For example, why someone feels hot and someone else feels cold has everything to do with their individual condition.”

One of the preceptors shared his experience of transmitting from the water point to two abhyasis during a sitting and they had exactly opposite readings – one felt warm and the other felt cold.

Commenting on this, Kamlesh bhai said, “The readings of the abhyasis are correct, however you are wrong. As preceptors, we should always transmit from the heart and not from any specific point. Where the transmission flows depends on the approach and condition of the abhyasi.”

This way he beautifully taught the group the importance of sticking to the basics.

Another preceptor commented, “The preceptor can feel where the transmission is reaching though.”

Kamlesh bhai said, “Yes. It is like the blood pressure machine. You see the mercury go up, and at a certain reading it settles. It’s a feeling similar to that. We don’t push the transmission; we observe where it’s going. You see, one has to be confident.”

Responding to this, one preceptor said, “But Kamlesh bhai, sometimes there is this fear. There is this feeling that maybe I am not doing it right.”

KDP: “Why should you fear?”

Preceptor: “It is a fear of doing something wrong.”

KDP: “What wrong can happen in a sitting? Even if you read something wrongly, how does it matter as long as it remains with you for further study?”

Saying this, Kamlesh bhai laughed, and with his laughter any doubts that still persisted were washed away.

Sahaj Connect App and the genesis of the idea

One preceptor spoke about the remote sittings given from the Sahaj Connect App, saying, “Now we are able to give sittings even without seeing a photo of the abhyasi.”

Commenting on this, Kamlesh bhai said, “This idea emerged from a conversation that I had with beloved Master in Kolkota. Once Babuji had a question, and the only person who could answer was a character from Hindu Mythology, by the name of Ravan.

Lalaji intercommunicated with Babuji and said, ‘You can call Ravan.’

Babuji said, ‘Huzoor, I haven’t seen him. How can I call him?’

Lalaji suggested, ‘You say that one who was Ravan in his previous life, please appear before me.’

That is how he communicated with Ravan. Pujya Shri Babuji and Ravan had their conversations.

“Beloved Master said that if you have a single hair of a person you can read the condition of that person. These conversations gave me the idea you see. This process was taken up in a practical way during the Courmette Seminar in 1988.”

Clarification on Point 1

There was some discussion on the points, and Kamlesh bhai gave an important clarification: “Point 1 is Point 1. Points A and B are separate from it. In the older version of Complete Works of Ram Chandra volume 1 they were shown as part of Point 1.”

Why do we undergo sufferings?

Kamlesh bhai was reading the following section from Babuji’s commentary on Maxim 7:

According to the law of Nature, everything tends to go back to its source. Since owing to the continuous contact of heat, its heaviness grows unendurable; it becomes necessary for it to return to the Origin in order to relieve itself of the weight. Things coming out from even smaller things get expanded when they find sufficient scope for it. The expansion is full with a force according to the volume it covers, because the things which have sprung up naturally possess power. When this is the case, it now turns into another phase and begins to cover all available space, affecting even the layers reserved for bhogam. This leads to the commencement of sufferings. I have taken up the subject very briefly though every point in it could be further illustrated separately.

The circumstances for the process of bhogam, which may be from internal causes or external, are thus created. The external help comes in the form of suffering caused by the wrongs done by others, against which people generally poison their thought on account of their own ignorance. This is very improper because this action, having helped the process of purification, has in fact put you under a sense of obligation. When this is the case, the work done through an external agency, it may be any, has in other words rendered the function of a true friend.

He explained, “Look at the details Babuji offers. It is so technical. You see, we have all these points and vestibules in the system. On top of that there are these layers. When all these are filled up with grossness and then it spills over, that’s when we begin to experience sufferings. It goes to show how much we need to clean the system. Also, Nature has granted us a protective mechanism in how samskaras are stored and then released bit by bit to the extent that we can handle it.

Time with Babuji: an anecdote

One time, Kamlesh bhai stayed with Babuji for about 10 days: “All through these days, I meditated, ate and slept. That’s all. Someone would wake me up, I would eat, meditate and again go back to sleep.

One day in the evening Babuji looked at me and said, ‘You should stay in this condition 24 hours a day.’

I looked within myself and tried to study the condition. There was the feeling of insignificance, a state like dust or that of a wandering street dog. There was a carefree state like the street dog, not worried about where to sleep or from where the food will come! The beauty here is that Pujya Shri Babuji first created the state and, having established that, he made sure that I would recognise it and make efforts to keep it going permanently.

“You know all his messages especially those delivered on special bhandaras like Basant Panchami or the 30th of April, had a characteristic theme that would reflect the work done during the bhandara. He would give a theme and then infuse that condition in us. You can pick up any message of his and the work done at that time was based on that theme. Practically he would walk us through it.”

Trying to meet the Master during bhandaras

“People would line up to meet Babuji during bhandaras. There was so much security, so much chaos, all to bother the old man. There was no need! The transmission was so intense that any effort to do anything else would bounce off.

“Celebrations are meant for drowning ourselves in Grace. Never waste time looking at the cottage. Shun it. There is no point in spoiling celebrations trying to meet Master. They are all participating: Lord Krishna comes for every celebration. Pujya Shri Lalaji and Babuji are always there in full bloom. Swamiji has to be there. Now our Master has joined the cartel of Masters. Many other greater beings from other dimensions may also choose to come. That is why it is best to be absorbed within during these celebrations.”

Clarifying wrong notions about the practice

During this visit to the US, so far close to twenty-five new preceptors have been given permission to work. One evening, Kamlesh bhai was having an informal conversation with them:

“Someone was asking, ‘Can I give sittings to my wife and my children?’ So I said, there is nothing wrong with that. You know it was Lalaji’s dream that every home should have a preceptor. Why have a preceptor in every home? Surely not for decoration and certainly not for your spouse or children to worship you as a preceptor!”

Talking about another common wrong notion: “Several abhyasis have asked me this question. ‘Can I sit for cleaning when my daughter or my son is on my lap?’ Why not? The child was with you nine months inside and you did your practice. If the child is demanding to be with you, and not disturbing in any way, why not?”

Spontaneously one abhyasi asked, “Master, what about my cat sitting in my lap while I do my cleaning?” The whole room erupted into laughter.

Kamlesh bhai smiled and lovingly answered, “No, that’s not good.”

Meat eating

A sister asked, “Is it true that Swami Vivekananda ate fish?”
Kamlesh bhai replied, “Yes, this is true.”
“Then is it correct that those who eat fish can still evolve to the highest?”
He laughed and replied, “Logically you are correct. However for one to be able to do that, they must have the calibre of Swamiji.”
She replied, “I am working on it.”
Kamlesh bhai’s wit got her on the spot: “What can be done in the absence of such calibre? Once you have it you can eat fish.”
The whole room burst into laughter.

He explained, “It is a matter of the subtle bodies. Anything that can harm and hurt creates vibrations. The meat carries the vibrations of pain because of the torture the animal was subjected to. People eating this meat are actually digesting the vibratory pattern of the pain and grief of these animals. So you may enjoy eating it, but how can you achieve peace and contentment?

“Even eggs for that matter: people say these eggs don’t hatch, but does the mother chicken know that? She doesn’t. The moment the chicken sees the egg missing she panics and worries about the egg. That thought is carried with the egg. It is these vibrations that affects us when we consume them.

“Babuji had a beautiful answer for this question. You know it was the early years of the Mission in Europe, and most abhyasis did not have the discrimination or awareness of what to eat and what not to eat. Someone asked Babuji if they could eat non-vegetarian food. Babuji said, ‘I allow you to eat it until you can stop it by yourself.’ What a profound answer you see! Stop it when your heart says so. Stopping forcefully and missing it will create samskaras.”

Religion, spirituality, Reality, bliss and nothingness

In Reality at Dawn there is the statement that where religion ends spirituality begins.

Kamlesh bhai shared a beautiful insight on this: “What is religion all about? It is about beliefs and dogmas. What is spirituality all about? It is an experiential thing. What religion talks about, we experience in spirituality. Religion says God is everywhere; in spirituality we feel his presence everywhere.

“When spirituality ends we enter the realm of Reality. Now what happens there? What happens to your experiences there? You see things as they are. There is no experience. You are a witness of things as they are. And then Reality also ends and you enter a state of bliss.

“This is the stage where you are ‘being’ yourself. Absolute peace. And then bliss also ends. We have to go beyond all this. From the state of ‘being’ where bliss is in abundance, to the state of ‘non-being’, about which no words can suffice, since it is indescribable. You enter into Nothingness. Non-being does not mean you have destroyed yourself. You have merged and aligned with God. That is the culmination.”
